I bought it for 179.99 + tax (total 191) from a Jacsonville, FL Circuit City. It can play DVDs, VCDs, CDs, and supposedly MP3 home-recorded CDs, and other hidden goodies known and used only by our techno geek friends. Plus it also has karaoke ability with 2 mic inputs for the aspiring crooners. The chasis is 17 inch long and the front panel looks uncluttered and pretty nice, fitting in nicely with other stereo components. I use it for movies only, but so far am not impressed with picture quality. My other player Toshiba 3109 definitely has a superior picture. Plus, for the older titles, such as Artisan's Rambo First Blood, the picture is "sticky"; the frame would freeze repeatedly and annoyingly for .5-1 sec then resumes. This problem is seen less frequent on newer titles such as Blade, and none at all on Wild, Wild West. The audio is fine as far as my untrained ears can tell. Loading the disc is very fast compared to my slow-as-snail Toshiba. It's an okay deal for 180 clams, esp. if one is short on cash like me. I think I will play with it for 2 more weeks, and if not comfortable with it, probably will return it to Circuit City for full refund. Have you considered the Philips DVD940 from 800.com for 299.00, with free shipping, plus 25.00 off for new customers, and free 50.00 to spend on their DVDs? It's got a head phone jack and knob so you can use it at night as a CD player without waking up the rest of the house!

I had this DVD player bought for me for an early Valentine's day present. This player does play mp3. However, I do not think you can scan through an indivual song, only skip to the next or previous. The display shows an annoying 6 characters max when showing mp3 song titles. More information, including the ability to disable macrovision can be found at [Link: nerd-out.com].

Overall this player is a real steal at $180
