I hav experienced problems with about three movies not playing on my jvc dvd player. I was told that some discs wont play. I rented all of them. I wonder if it is a problem with my player, all jvcs or just dvd players in general. If it is a problem with jvcs what makes of dvd will not play and why? what dvd will play all?

By mentioning "rental" you throw a whole new curveball of damaged discs, dirty discs and scratched discs. If it's a brand new purchased disc not playing it may be another story...

My JVC XV511BK will not play 3 of my DVD's that I have purchased (Apollo 13, Deep Impact, Star Trek IV). It plays all my other DVD's fine. The three DVD's that I mentioned work in other DVD players. I just took my DVD player back to Circuit City to be repaired for this reason because if the DVD's work in other players, then the problem is not the DVD's.

Allen, did Circuit City fix the problem?
And if so, what was it?

Did you play either the movie "Arlington Road" or "Cruel Intentions" before this hapenned. JVC players have a problem with these movies involving the parental controls. The fix is an EEPROM reset described on jvcservice website under Frequently asked questions.
