I recieved a Toshiba sr-3109 dvd player as a Christmas gift, and know next to nothing about the techinical details of dvd players.
After browsing thru this forum I was hoping someone would take the time to explain to me what a region code is, and what the benifits are of unlocking them.
One short thread named Toshiba 3109 gave me the impression that the 3109 had the ability to unlock these region codes, while some other threads indicated that there is a type of hacking procedure is required to unlock the region codes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll take a stab at this. Region codes were established to prevent viewing the movie overseas prior to the relases of the movie in those movie theatres. If your dvd player was bought in the USA, and you live in the USA, you should'nt have to be concerned about region codes. I believe the player was sold defaulting to the US region. To be sure, check the players manual.
