Any opinions on the Pioneer DV-525? I'm looking for something basic, but good quality for my parents. This one was recommended by a sales rep, but the opinions expressed here are what help drive my decisions.

Also, there was talk a while back about lip-synch problems. Any way to identify which players suffer by the serial number?

Thanks in advance!

I believe the lip-synch problems have been fixed on current models... Pioneer's a good brand (video quality is known to be tops), so I think you'd be making a wise choice.

Dan -

Thanks. Is there any way to identify "problem" units with the serial number?

According to Pioneer Tech's they have fixed all of the problem's with the lip-synch issue.
There last model in prodcution to do that was the Pionner DV-414. It was real bad.
If you purchase it from the internet be sure to get a receipt without shipping on it. Pioneer says they will not offer the $50.00 rebate and maybe warranty. It was posted on there web-site.

Hope that little info helps.

I have first hand experience with this particular Pioneer model. I think it is excellent. Picture is great and sound is superb. You'll have a choice of video outs;composite, s-video "and" component outputs if you need them. Also, you'll get two choices of audio outs, coaxial digital and optical as well as regular rca outs.Another good thing about this player is that you can play CD-R discs without a problem. Many people do not like the remote, which is not illuminated but if you can live with that then this is an excellent entry level choice.

I found the 525 to have too many jaggies. I returned mine. Otherwise I liked the unit ok.
