I'm about to purchase a DVD player for Christmas, and was wondering whether anyone could answer a few questions: 1. Do manufactures other than Sony have the lip-sync problem? 2. Has the lip-sync problem really been fixed? 3. What other models/brands in the $400-$450 range are recommended? Thanks in advance for your time and responses.

1) Pioneer did, way before the current generation of Sonys (only Sony's 3rd generation had the lip sync issue).
2) Yes. Is is.
One thing to remember is that certain discs have some lip-sync issues in a few scenes, but that's a problem with the mastering of the disc, not the player (the player is playing it back perfectly, problems and all).
