I rented Notting Hill and Instinct the other day and both dvds stopped at different chapters. Notting Hill on chapter 8 and Instinct on chapter 13. I have a samsung 709. It worked great until the Matrix (I got the upgrade) now this! Both dvds were region 1. The movies were rented from Blockbuster.

Has anyone else had these problems and is there a solution?
Thanks in advance.

possibly not to do with this problem but to do with regions:
if you can get hold of an Aiwa RC-Z818 remote control open the DVD tray and then press Random on the remote; you can then change the region settings for the DVD player this may be the cause of your problem: it could be in the wrong region.

They were both region 1. I think the movies that Blockbuster rents out are copies of an original. Could this be a problem? Originally I thought my player might be getting hot and causing some play back problems. But I tried to play the movie from where I left off (the next day) and had the same results. Maybe I just need a better player.

I just returned my Samsung 709 player because it wouldn't play Pink Floyd's Wall DVD. Best Buy said the player had a recall on it and I traded it in on a different player.

Ben,
You say Best Buy had a recall on it? Does this apply to other stores or is it just Best Buy? I have had nothing but problems with it and would not be surprised if a recall has been issued.
If you dont mind me asking, what did you get instead?

Duke,

check out the following site for stories on the Sammy 709 problems, as well as suggestions as to what is a good step to take with regards to replacing it.

www.dvd-debate.com - check out the FORUM section of it.

regards
Gary

The consensus seems to be take it back and get something else - EG Pioneer 525, Tosh 2109 etc
