Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on the better player between these two progressive DVD 's.Looking to purchase a progressive scanning DVD and need some independent input. Thanks

Looking at the price tag of both is enough of a review for me. I was in an electronics shop watching Saving Private Ryan on a Mits RPTV on DVD and the salesamn said that down the road this is going to be the worst picture people watch. When you think about it he's right. When HDTV comes out and everyone's watching 1080i; a 480i DVD image, and even a 480p image won't compare to a 1080i. So if I were you; I wouldn't invest anymore than a thousand dollars on a DVD player. The 9100 has gotten great reviews and I just don't think anyone can make a DVD player worth $1,500-$2k(unless it's DVD-RW ;)

Granted yes 1080i and 720p will always look better than a 480p, but there is one caveat to that!! If, like 68% of the american population, you own a tube television, 480p is just about the best you can get. (One will not be able to fit over 1 million pixels on a screen that small unless they are willing to forgo the Lexus)
I am an authorized dealer for both Panasonic and Toshiba, i've played both of them and they are amazing (on big screens and tube). No flicker is a great reason to pick up one of these units!! I like the Toshiba better in terms of user friendliness and their superb film-like picture.

Don't forget that unless your tv can accept a 480p then the 9100 or the H1000 is a waste of time.

Can you shut down the progessive scan with an on screen menu with either of these players mentioned above. The SD-5109 is the one I tried out and it locks my HD set (Pioneer Pro-700HD) in the Full anamorphic mode and you CAN NOT switch to another wide screen mode. This is the TV's fault not the dvd player, but if you can switch off the progessive scan for non-anamorphic dvd's on the player, I want to buy one. Thanks..

Use the standard component(color stream)outputs instead of the progressive(color stream pro) outputs. The color stream are 480I while the color stream pro are 480P. The SD5109 can be used today as well as tommorow, but it will be cheaper tommorow. I see HDDVD comeing quicker than expected!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!
