Hi All,
Is it me, or does THX software sound amazing regardless of the receiver? THX-certified or NOT. My receiver, DA50ES is not THX, neither are my speakers, except for my B&W surrounds. So what gives? I notice it more when I play the THX Star Wars VHS tapes - for tape they sound amazing!

Well, THX is just a set of standards -- in home theater applications, THX equipment is certified to meet THX's specifications. For any video medium it's also a set of standards and technologies use to enhance older films or reproduce current films at the highest quality level. Yes, Star Wars THX tape sound pretty good for VHS -- but there are non-THX movies that also sound very good (considering).

Most DVD's are not THX certified. You can count on a THX approved product to be very good, but it is not inherently any better than any other high quality sound transfer.
