watch the BBC series Planet Earth available on HD-DVD.

[Link: cbc.ca]

not only is it a VERY interesting documentary but the filming is nothing short of AMAZING. i have never seen such beautiful scenery and my life, tonnes of aerial and satellite footage - and all in HD glory!!

even if you hate documentaries, there is no better way to show off your HDTV's ability... the scenery is so awesome you could have it running as background while you listen to music or whatever.

i know this title has been discussed somewhere here in the past, but i had to throw my recommendation in, as i was simply blown away by the first few episodes (i believe there are 11 or 12 episodes all together on 4 discs).

Seconded. If you don't have an HD-DVD player, catch the re-runs on Discovery HD.

I just picked it up but haven't watched it yet. Currently occupied with a city zoning board meeting prep, and setting up my old CRT HDTV in the basement guest bedroom with DirecTV and a TIVO. New cables to run and a harmony remote to program.

I agree a 100 percent. The PQ is amazing.
I freaked out when the guy jumped in the cave.
And this one is amazing too:

i can't ever get over seeing those elephants frolicking around UNDERNEATH the water - i didnt realize animals that big could even "frolick" in the 1st place!

Yep, underwater/in-the-water is where the heaviest beasts have the most fun. Takes the load off their feet. Fat is buoyant, ya know. ;-)

Although I do not own a hd player, I picked this series up on regular DVD for $60 (can) at Best Buy. My DVD player up converts to 1080p and I am truly amazed at the quality! I'm only half way through, but everything said about this series is fantastic. I especially like the last 10 minutes of each episode showing how some of the filming was accomplished.
