We're modulating to the rest of the house on 480i from a DVD player that is connected to an HDTV at 480p.

Well, as s-video is inherently 480i... The Marantz DV8400 can. Component or DVI out at 480p and s-video at 480i (as all outputs are live simultaneously). Hmmm... you may even be able to output 480p via DVI and 480i via component on it... not sure on that, though.

The Krell Showcase DVD has seperate video boards for interlaced / progressive / and HDMI ... and I'm almost 100% sure they are all active at the same time.
