There are supposed to be black bars with most movies, since they are a different shape than your screen. Some movies are wider than others and will have wider black bars. Others may be very close to the size of your screen and have either no bar or bars so small most people THINK there are none.

If you NEVER had black bars, then your DVDp or TV was using some sort of zoom, stretch or squish mode to alter the picture to make it fit the screen.

Did you go into the setup menu and change the screen size to 16:9?
