I use a product from the Pinnicle brand version 9 to allow DVD recording of VHS, after the video is in the pinnicle it goes into your 2.0 USB and into your DVD+R, I have a NEC 6500 bought off of newegg fits nice and records nice. With a OAR of 1.37:1 Academy Standard the form used before the wide film "The Robe" 1953 emerged and cinemascope took off with the first 2.55:1 I seen this for 25¢ 1/4 of a dollar which was the first run of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" which brought this 7 year old kid into seeing wide pictures for the first time and heard the stereo soundtrack on December 23, 1954. No black bars for like then and today the lights dim and go dark at the pay for a ticket movie theater, I use the same process for watching wide screen movies and like those Theaters there is no black bars to be seen in my Home Theater either.
The first DVD disc at my apartment made from Vhs was 1952 "The Naked Jungle", why buy new if your going to get the same aspect ratio, I also recorded "The Crimson Pirate" 1952 Burt Lancaster and friend Nick Kravat did their own stunt performances while making this is Academy Standard OAR. I also did "The Adventures of Robin Hood" Erroll Flynn and Olivia De Haviland 1938 and saved myself money that could be used elsware like making the colorized "King Kong" 1933 into a DVD + R also. This backing up is really starting to be fun also knowing your disc will not fade like the cheap video tape of yesteryear. :)
P.S. I'm giving the vhs cassettes to the salvation army to give to people who can't afford basic dvd, and are now able to watch such movies as I now have on disc.:) ___________________________________________________________________ Edit I just completed by backing up of my first colorized disc from colorized VHS tape called "The Thing From Another World" 1951
