I’ve had a Philips DVDR80 about 18 mos. and it's now in the shop for repair. It won't read -R and says "empty disc" often when I put in a disc I know has data on it. I thought + was the way to go and was happy recording over 100 discs. Now, I wonder if it's worth to have it repaired. I've eyed the SONY 300 which supposedly records and reads + and -, but Circuit City had no new ones and 4 in open boxes. Bit wary after seeing that. So, I am looking for a dependable + recorder that also also reads -R and has the feature of showing jpeg photos--I've seen that feature on some lower-priced recorders Magnovox, Sanyo and iLo. Appreciate any suggestions or places on the net to get objective info.

JVC DR-M10SL or Panasonic DMR E85H which has a 120GB Hardrive see them @ www.jr.com, or NEC 6500 for $132 from www.newegg.com for internal notebook or some Dual Layered recorders for desktops or external with USB 2.0 high speed with www.icos-tech.com/. You'll be set until blue ray or blu-ray 'if' desired comes along. :)
