Hi all,

This is a duplicate post. I wasn't getting any response in the Home Theater fourum so I decided to post it here. This was probably where it belonged in the first place.

What would be a decent DVD/VHS recorder to purchase? I saw a Go Video unit at costco for $279.00. I just need it for basic recording to DVDs (CD recording would be a plus). I need to transfer all my VHS family pictures to DVDs.

What are some pros and cons to these units?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I'd really recommend a combo unit, especially an inexpensive one. You might do better with standalone units.

With everything being built to a budget I'd have to agree with The Big Cheese (I'm intrigued to know what flavour) about inexpensive devices. This seems interesting though . . .

Not sure as to whether it has a North American equivalent.

I personally prefer Smoked Gouda! How about you?

But seriously... I'm not looking for Hi End equipment here. I just need to get my family pics on DVD. However, my current VHS player is ultra low end (as in crap!) so any upgrade to that would be a plus. But since I plan to transfer everything to DVD I guess it doesn't matter if the VHS portion of the unit is also low end as long as it copies my home videos with acceptable video/audio reproduction.

If they're EP/SLP tapes, a good VCR will get more quality out of them then you might imagine (better than the machine that recorded them - just avoid JVC SVHS for non SVHS tapes). Otherwise, I honestly can't say how the Go unit would do. Costco has a pretty good return policy, though.

JVC Pro has a nice unit....

It's pricy, but it's 2 seperate decks in one chassis.

You can wire it into 2 seperate record loops for easy use.

BTW, I researched this one up because the JVC consumer S-Video deck doesn't have ANY inputs on the rear panel, only on the front.
