Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I have a Scientic Atlanta HD8000 PVR, which has a Universal Remote. I'd like to configure it to control the DVD function of my XBox. I have tried the code searching capability of the remote taht comes with the PVR, but no luck. Is there some specific code anyone can recommend? Who makes the DVD part of the XBox anyway?

Thanks.

The X-box DVD player can be made by Phillips, Thompson or Samsung. I would have no idea how to code a normal player remote to operate it though.

The only chance you'd have is if your Xbox was totally chipped.

Bird, see if your remote has an automatic code-search function, where it scans all the codes and you stop it when it affects your machine.

If you have the official xbox remote and eye, then it responds the RCA dvd code.

Anyone get this to work? I have an Xbox (no mods) with the official DVD eye and been trying to get it to work with an older Sony universal remote using its RCA codes. I can assume maybe my remote is too old and that I need to get a new remote. Can anyone provide me any assurance before I plunk down cash on a new remote?

I misplaced my darn Xbox remote control, but I was able to get the RCA DVD Code to work with my newer Jensen JR500 5 in 1 Universal Remote control. I used the code 0522, it works GREAT! You can find my exact model on Amazon here: [Link: amazon.com]

Only $16.99.

Hope this helps everyone looking for an alternate X-Box remote!!

THANK YOU - skubidu!! I have an RCA Universal Remote that has been laying around forever, I never use. Then, my son lost the Microsoft XBox Remote Control. Just so happens the RCA RCU410X Universal Remote Control uses the same form factor (looks exactly like the XBOX remote). I couldn't get the autoprogram to pickup the XBox RFID, so I used skubidu's code above "0522" IT WORKS GREAT! If you have an RCA universal remote like this, here's the instructions:

1. Manually turn on the device you want to program.
2. Get your code in your head, ready to use, "0522"
3. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the indicator light until you get solid light, then release.
4. Press and release the device you want to program, the indicator , light will blink then remain lit.
5. Enter your code 0522 using the number buttons. After your code is entered the indicator light will turn off.
6. Aim the remote at your device and press the play button with a DVD in the XBox Drive.

Here's what the remote looks like:

Code 0522 didn't do a thing for you, thats a UEI remote code for rca dvd players. The rca remote didn't take it the code, its prbably still set to rca dvd default code. The jensen JR500 is made by UEI. The only rca remote to be made by UEI is the RC810, and its code list is offset by 17. So the rca dvd code would be 0522+17=0539.
