I just bought the Sony DVP-CX777ES--the 400 disc explorer. I am working on loading my movies, and it will recognize some of the films and automatically enter the titles and the picture of the DVD jacket. I can enter the titles and categoriesof those that it does not recognize, but I don't know how to get the DVD jacket picture loaded on my menu. Can anyone help? BTW: I'm new to Remotecentral.com--but I've heard it's great and will probably be very helpful to me considering I'm always trying to keep up on my electronic toys, but don't always have the patience to figure some of the things out on my own.

I'm no help for you, but maybe you could help me: I'll watch, with interest, this thread to see what kind of feedback you get since I might buy that unit myself.
I'd appreciate your comments on it.

Best regards,

I own 3 of the DVP-CX985V changers, but have never seen the Disc Explorer interface unfortunately. I wish I could be of some help in that regard. Sorry.

If you find you need another solution for accessing your DVD's in the changers there are alternative solutions out there. I use my TSU7000 for que'ing up the DVD's in my changers.

You could easily retrofit my .pcf file for use with your changer since it uses the same IR codes. I've had several people email me who have gotten their changers and DVD collections up and running in just a day or two using my .pcf file as a starting point.

Check out this thread for more information if you are interested. Good luck with the Disc Explorer feature by the way. I had read so many negative things about it before purchasing my changers that I already had my TSU7000 waiting in the wings.

I read this description on Amazon:

The DVP-CX777ES also incorporates Jacket Picture, which records disc-jacket pictures that will appear automatically on your TV when accessed within the changer. If no jacket picture is available, you can customize your jacket pictures by freezing any scene on a DVD.

Does the manual tell you how to do this?
The closer I get to the truth....the further I find I am from it

I remember reading this now I am pretty sure when I got my changers. Amazon would right on the money regarding this.

I have the 875, and on the remote, there is a button that says "picture memory". While you are whatching a movie, and you run across a scene you would like to use in place of a jacket cover, press this button. It should capture a pic of the scene , and store it as though it were the jacket cover art.

Speaking of movie pics ...

I know it is a bit premature, but I had to update my DVD Profiler and TSU7000 .pcf file for the Star Wars Trilogy coming out later this month. I've got my DVD cover in place of the box set which jumps to these submenu pages to load each disc. I may do something different later on, but these are good for now.

One of my earliest movie memories as a child was seeing Star Wars. The Star Wars Trilogy box set does not really need submenu pages, but I had to do something fun for these. I had the available memory so why not, eh. :-) All that is left to do now is drop each disc in my 3rd mega changer and I'm ready to roll.

From what I've read around 100 specs of dust, dirt, scratches and so forth were removed from each and every frame of these films. The screenshots I've seen of the before and after are amazing. Can't wait to fire the home theatre up and check these out. Will sure beat the beta tape copies I currently have in my collection. :-P

I,ve been dying to get my hands on these movies myself. I gave my VHS tapes away to a friend of mine earlier this year when I heard they were finally going to release them on DVD.( I don't use a VCR in my living room anymore, so I couldn't justify them taking up the much needed storage space in my wall unit)

I've noticed that, with the Disc Explorer on the 985, the picture quality on the jacket covers is not very good, especially on a big screen HDTV (blurry at best). I think I remember in the early days of owning this unit I "stumbled" across a method to increase the resolution of the Jacket Picture, but for the life of me I can't seem to remember how!
Is this possible or was I just having a "senior's" moment? Any comments would be greatly appreciated as I'm in the process of reorganizing my collection.
Thanks in advance!

DVD spec for the Jacket Picture is 720 x 480 for the Large and 176x112 for the Medium. The Large is shown when the disc is stopped and the Medium is used in the explorer menu. There is also a Small in spec. They are very small mpeg files.

Not all DVD authorers bother to put them on the disc, silmilarly not all bother to put the DVD text either.

As to being blurry, I've seen some really nice jackets and some really bad, depends on the guy who made them.
