According to the Samsung and Amazon.com websites, this model will not be released for sale until Sept 30. The reviews are fantastic. I have the previous version (831) and it is great...but I'm still thinking about getting this one also. Running it into a 52" LG DLP TV, and it really is superb. The new StarWars DVD's are incredible...

It annoys me that the majority of these DVD players will only output that upconverted signal via the DVI/HDCP output. Why restrict the component out to 480p only? :-( I don't see why this should be a copyright issue. It's nonsense if you ask me.

Samsung has delayed the release of the HD 941 due to the need for "further testing." According to a major national retail chain there has been some HD 841 units out for repair due to a "freezing" issue.

Also, there remains many HD 841 unit's on the retailer shelves.

I suspect that many retailer's are relunctant to order the 941 with a large stock of older models.

can anyone tell me if the HD941 will be able to out put the 720 or 1080 on component interface? Based on Lowpro's response on September 23 I couldnt tell if the was a generic comment and/or if the HD941 also feel under the umbrella that it will only do 480p with component.

I could not find any website which confirms this one way or the other cvaldez01, including Samsung's website. Samsung "upconversion" DVD players have never supported 720/1080i output via the component video out. There are a few DVD players out there which do, but any major electronics manufacturer will not even go there. The HD941 will have an HDMI output actually, not DVI. The player does come with a HDMI to DVI adapter if you need DVI output instead.

Thanks for your reply. My sony projector uses composite, S-video and compoent and i'm trying to get the best quality picture out of the componet inputs. The project supports 720p and 1080i. So if you know the brand of the other DVD players that might help me utilize my projector with "upconversion" I would appreciate it. In the mean time i will call Samsung and see if anyone will confirm "one way or the other".
Thanks again Lowpro.

Well, I must eat crow. Those returned Samsung HD 841 dvd players were not defective as consumers thought . In fact,I too thought there was a defect "right out of the box." The video at first dislayed a pinkish "berber carpet" pattern. This is not a defect!!!

The HD 841 requires a set up procedure, and selection process. When connecting to a HDTV with DVI, connect the R,G,B video RCA connectors from the 841 to the TV. Next, turn on the 841 and TV. Press the menu button on the 841 remote, arrow down to and select setup. Select Display Setup. Next arrow down to Video Select and arrow down and select P-Scan/DVI.Turn off the power to TV and 841 then, connect the supplied DVI cable. There you have it: the lost secret to the holy grail.

To select the up sampling to 1080 (high definition quality) press the DVI SEL button on the middle and far right side of remote. Press the button once, allow 841 to process the signal, and repeat until 1080 appears.

The combo of Samsung 50 inch DLP HLN 5065W and HD 841 dvd using the DVI cable elicites a darn good near Plasma-quality picture.

I called Samsung today. The rep says the HD941 is on hold and the unit may never be released. He did not know why and said there were no rumors. I waited to purchase a new one. Now I guess I will need to start searching for something else.

I agree with "nothru22". I bought it to go with my Samsung DLP, hooked it up via DVI and was not impressed. I found one very good spot in a movie to compare DVI and component connection and the component was sharper. The DVI had deeper blacks but that's it. The clarity was better with component. I returned it and bought the lower model P341 and I am totally happy with it. I viewed the same movie used before and the sharpness is the same. So, much for DVI.

Note: to those that still want the 841 I saw it at Circuit City for $155 normally $200, but the P-341 is only $90.
