My Sony DVP-NS 315 says stand-by is the off mode. The hacks say I need to be in this mode so I can set the DVD player to play other region DVD's, but when it is off or even when it is on and no disc in unit and I try the keystrokes nothing happens. Can anyone assist? Thanks in advance for any help. I appreciate it.

Is your unit actually hacked? Sony players require a hardware modification.

No it isn't actually hacked. I saw a website where it was just some keystrokes. Your saying I defintely need someone to go in and do something to hardware to get this to work? If so, then I guess it doesn't make sense. I thought it could be done without modification. Thanks for help.

At one point in time the answer would have been a definate yes to hardware modification only. However, some (all?) of the latter models are now hackable via remote keystokes. I know, I've done it to my daughter's Sony player (DVP-NS405)

One thing to note though is that for regions other than 2, it outputs colour via the SCART RGB connections . . . and since the daughters TV doesn't have an RGB compatible scart input, she can only watch region 1 films in black and white.

I also have a sony dvd player (ns500) I have been able to get into some hackable functions (unfortunately, not the ones I want).

Here's my understanding of how I get into standby mode:

1) Physically turn the player off (use the power button on the player itself).
2) Turn the player back on using the power button. (For me, the power light glows red-- this is standby mode. If I press any other button, the light glows green)
3) Proceed (at your own risk) with trying to hack into your player.

Don't know if it helps or not.

Hello!

Which keystrokes did you use to hack it?

Sincerely Joakim Agren!

For this you need a Compaq/HP Ipaq and following software:

Connect your Ipaq to your PC through the cradle and run the EXE file. This will instal the program on your Ipaq. Copy the CCF file to your Ipaq. Now run the TVRemote software on your Ipaq and load the CCF file into it. Have your DVD player on standby.
Press 1 and the blue send key, press 1 again and the blue send key, press 2 and the send key, press 2 again and the send key, etc, etc, etc up to number 5. After this the DVD player should come to life and say "SUCCESS". Repeat the whole procedure again as described above. After this the DVD player should be region free! I have tested this on a Region2 encoded Sony DVP-NS433 player.
