Do yourself a favor. Next time pay a little extra for the better unit (Sony, Pioneer, etc...). Sylvania makes great light bulbs, I have a bunch in my house.
I can put a happy ending to this thread! I called Funai Corp. (parent of Sylvania) customer support. They said I needed a "software upgrade". They paid shipping both ways and did the upgrade, even though I had not registered the player and didn't have the receipt. Not bad for a light bulb company!
