Hi, I have a Kenwood DV303 DVD player and I don't think it has progressive scan. Can you tell me what I am missing if anything? I don't have a HDTV yet but I will within a year or so. Thanks!

Both the TV and the DVD player have to support progressive scan for you to see any benefit. And yes, when you do take the plunge to progressive, it offers a considerably sharper picture.

I would not recomend buying a new DVD player that is not progressive scan. However I would also not recomend upgrading to a progresive scan model unless the upgrade will provide you other features or benefits. Simply put, if this is your first DVD purchace, get a progressive scan unit. If you already have a good quality DVD player, wait untill you get a better TV before taking the plunge.

The interesting thing is, depending on the processing circuitry in your HDTV/display device, you may actually find you prefer to let it do the conversion rather than your DVD player. I know a friend found a high-end DVD player's progressive to be too "soft" compared to how his projector did the conversion.
