I just hooked up my new Toshiba TV (model 27AF42 ) to my Toshiba SD-2800 DVD player using the ColorStream component video inputs/outputs and now I get a faint 2-inch vertical bar moving slowly from left to right. I tried using the composite hookups and it went away. I use S-Video for my cable connection and it's fine too.
Toshiba CS said to unplug the TV and let it sit for 3 minutes to "reset" it, which sounds a bit dubious for what sounds like an interference problem.
Any suggestions?

Well, have you tried their suggestion? It would be silly to not try it just because it sounds silly. You might also try checking the DVD and TV menus for interlace/progressive settings and such. Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Actually, my gut told me it was either an RFI or EMI problem, so I ponied up the extra cash for a set of Monster2 component cables and the problem seems to have disappeared. I've always been skeptical of expensive cabling, but in this case, it seems to have made a difference.

The problem might not have necessarily even been the quality of the cables per say but that the cable you were using was defective in some way such as a nasty kink causing a break somewhere in the cable. It is always better to use higher quality cables for performance reasons.
