im wondering, does anybody know if you hook a HDTV satellite and progressive scan DVD player to a onkyo797 receiver, are u getting the absolute best picture quality out of the two video products...

Do you mean that your using the Onkyo to switch component video? If that's the case, then some would say that your adding another noise source in line, I say your doing it the right way. I've done some testing and have never seen any type of signal degredation using a AV switch such as the Onkyo.

DP, to go to the extreme, there must be at least a theoretical degradation with every connection, even a direct source-to-display one. The added convenience of receiver switching is considered worth it by most people.

Try it both ways yourself, with your equipment and cables, in your home. Can you see a difference? Is everything else in your system geared towards performance-above-all-else? Do you twist your interconnect ends once a month to clean the contact points?
