Folks, I'll be taking a trip to India soon and am looking for a decent region free DVD player. There are many on Ebay. A common one available is Sampo DVE-612, usually sell for around $70-80. Any thoughts on this DVD player or can someone recommend another reliable unit?
What about the possibility of modifying a dvd player to remove region protection?

Sampo/Apex/Daewoo if you want cheap (+inferior Pal conversion, will have problems with anamorphic PAL DVDs) - $69 - $200
Malata 996/520 - Best. Perfect PAL Conversion. $280

There are websites out there dedicated to APEX DVD players, and downloads availible that can be burnt to CD-R that the APEX player can read and it will remove Region Coding. Though, this is done at your own risk.
