I've noticed that on all TV’s (4:3 or 16:9) the menu of a DVD disc always fills the whole screen. Does the player set up when selecting the screen ratio determine this? Do discs have two menus (or sets of embedded menus) identical in content but with different screen proportions? Thanks, Cornel

It's not very uniform. Normally, menus are designed the same format as the movie, but not always. Dual format DVDs will usually have 4:3 menus, and I've even seen some anamorphic DVDs with 4:3 menus. I seriously doubt any DVD has dual-format menus - too costly. A 4:3 menu setup will fill a 16:9 screen, but if you look closely you'll notice the horizontal stretching, like somewhat oval-looking circles.
Cheers,
