hello, im currently looking to get a new DVD player, im sick of using my PS2...ok the Main reason is i hate getting up to turn it on and not being able to do it from the remote....ya im lazy,ok main reason is i wanna use MP3s and VCDs. but also its getting pretty jumpy from being over used with games. plus i heard its pretty much a piece of crap compared to a real DVD player...but i dont know if the ones in my budget will be...anyways heres the ones im looking to maybe get.

1:Panasonic DVD-CV52 5disc [head it cant be used with 16:9 screens? that you cant change the aspect ratio? maybe in confused]
2:Toshiba De-2300 [heard the audio on it is not that great and it doesnt use Optical, also its alot more pricey then the others]
3:Sony DVP-NS500V [havnt heard anything on this one so gimme an idea about its pros\cons]
4:Anything you wish to recommend

P.S. im in Canada so the Panasonic one is 350.00 cnd. so i can afford around a 200-250 dollar one in US funds.

Thanks for the help

Hi Syxx-Pakk,
I am from Montreal and I own a Panasonic DVD-CV52 which I use also for my music CD's.
I am extremely happy with it, it works flawlessly but you have to know a couple of things:
-it has only one digital output (optical and not coax)
-it plays mp3 but it won't display the file names on the tv (like toshiba does for ex)
-it won't display the remaining playing time for a DVD, only the elapsed time (works for CD's though)
The good points are:
-superb video
-superb sound
-very good at handling scratched DVD's (very useful if you, as I do, rent mostly)

One last piece of advice: if I were to buy a DVD player right now I would go for the Panasonic DVD-CP67: it's a 5 disc player as well, very slim, sexy and has progressive scan.

Check it out: [Link: panasonic.ca]

Good luck,
Cornel

One last thing about the DVD-CV52: I own a 4:3 tv and had no problems setting my player accordingly

thanks for the answers! i will check that other one out. but right now im running a non Progresive Tv and probably wont have one for some time. so i think i will stick to the CV52 since i get a good discount from work [Sears] and can get on for 250.00 cnd tax inc.
