Is it normal for a VCD to start from the beginning if you shut this player off during the movie and then return later? When I shut the whole machine off it reloads and plays from the beginning. please help.

Is there a 'resume' or 'condition' function you just haven't found yet? Play with the menus. Oh, and RTFM.

Shutting most units off does this, just stopping the playback though, then starting it again later without interrupting power, usually starts it where it left off.

i haven't seen a 'resume' or condition' function..would that be on the remote? and most my vcd's do not have a menu and thus I cannot the player does not let me set the 'PBC' function. I guess when I turn power off completely this is normal. Just thought I would try. Thanks.

Most DVD players -while you're watching a movie (VCD or DVD) --, if you turn off the power on the remote...

then come back and just press play on the remote (without powering it back up)... the movie usually resumes where you left off.

I noticed the same problem. I don't use VCD's normally, and my 'resume' function is displayed on the players lcd screen with DVD's, but using a VCD it's not present.

REally? I have to try that out of curiousity.

This problem is really frustrating if you are using a portable dvd player in a vehicle that's wired to the ignition. when you turn on the car (after pumping gas), all power is lost for a second and the kids start complaining when the dvd doesn't start where they were watching. since you can't see the screen from the front you really can't use the menus easily to find where you were.

i just ordered a $200 portable player from walmart online that has a 4 inch screen and a lithium battery. my hope is that the battery will kick in when the unit detects loss of power. if not, at least with the screen i can see the menu and get back to where the movie was.

more to the topic, i think the new sony coming out will have memory for 40 positions for different dvds. so i think you will be able to turn it off and it will now where you last where for up to 40 dvds. i think i read that somewhere. exciting new feature.
