Hello,
I want to buy a DVD player with capability of Macrovision disable for my private recordings.
I know that this can be done in some models by updating the firmware or in same cases by a simple combination of the remote control buttons.
Somebody can inform me about any DVD players models where this can be done?

Regards.

This is possible on most "chipped" players. If you can tell us whereabouts you live (country or state - your profile doesn't reveal this...) I'm sure someone can point you in the direction of a good place to look for a "chipped" player.

BTW, "chipped" means that the player has been modified to a.o. bypass the macrovision copy protection system. Most "remote hacks" (type a sequence on the remote or front panel) will only provide multiregion capabilities but not disable macrovision.

If you happen to be in UK or Western Europe, you should take a look at www.techtronics.com.

Copying DVDs is illegal. If you want t region free DVD player that defeats macrovision, the most recommeded site I know is www.codefreedvd.com , I think the Sampo 611 is a solid unit.

If you live in Portugal, you should be able to buy from www.techtronics.com. Try their site or give them a call (phone number on their site).

I am not endorsing illegal copying of DVDs but there are many equipment combinations where MacroVision makes it almost impossible to view a movie.

The $68 Apex AD-1100W (available at Wal-Mart) can be made MacroVision/Region Free with a free download file. You unzip the file and burn a data CD on your PC.

There are two versions of this player so you must be careful to select a unit in the right serial number range.

Everything you need to know and the download is at www.nerd-out.com. Once you create the CD, the upgrade takes about two minutes. The success rate is about 45 to 1 (really it's more like 200 successfully updated players to 1 player that died because the CD was created improperly).

I didn't believe it at first but it worked so well, I bought a second player (for the bedroom and as a spare)!

The icing on the cake is that this is a great little player which also supports Kodak Picture CDs, VCD, (X)SVCD, JPEG images and MPEG video, along with the normal formats supported by most DVD players, like MP3.

Since when is copying DVDs for personal use illegal? It would be illegal to sell them or even to give them away, but for home use I can't see it being illegal (one reason to make a VHS backup would be if you have a VCR in your van, for example). And, of course, since the original poster is in Portugal he would be subject to Portuguese laws, not US laws.

To answer the original question, there are also macrovision descramblers (do a search on Google for:
macrovision descrambler
macrovision decoder

etc.)

This would be a little box that would edit the macrovision out of the signal. I've seen them before, but wasn't that interested in them so I can't really give much more info on them.

When somebody exclaims that copying DVD's is illegal, it seems to me that the "big 5's" campaign to brainwash us into thinking we don't even have "fair use" rights is gong pretty well. The day I don't have fair use rghts is the day I start boycotting the entertainment industry.

Hi, Rachel. Long time, no see.

I think we're already there. Have you tried "legally" copying a DVD? Tried making a digital copy of a music CD? (Well, some of them) The day may be closer than we think!
