I am not endorsing illegal copying of DVDs but there are many equipment combinations where MacroVision makes it almost impossible to view a movie.
The $68 Apex AD-1100W (available at Wal-Mart) can be made MacroVision/Region Free with a free download file. You unzip the file and burn a data CD on your PC.
There are two versions of this player so you must be careful to select a unit in the right serial number range.
Everything you need to know and the download is at
www.nerd-out.com. Once you create the CD, the upgrade takes about two minutes. The success rate is about 45 to 1 (really it's more like 200 successfully updated players to 1 player that died because the CD was created improperly).
I didn't believe it at first but it worked so well, I bought a second player (for the bedroom and as a spare)!
The icing on the cake is that this is a great little player which also supports Kodak Picture CDs, VCD, (X)SVCD, JPEG images and MPEG video, along with the normal formats supported by most DVD players, like MP3.
