I have been looking into a new DVD player somewhat casually for a while now, but haven't been able to find one with analog 5.1 outs. I don't think I've seen any under the $230 price range, but I'm not looking foward to spending that much on a composite connection (I feel your sympathies). I would definitely prefer a digital connection, but my all-in-a-box stereo doesn't support them and I definitely don't have enough money to upgrade to a "real" reciever/nice speakers package.
Thanks, Mitchell

Have you tried searching for an external DTS/Dolby Digital decoder? These devices have analog 5.1 output. You can then couple the DVD player to the receiver via the external decoder. I believe that's a quite elegant and in-budget solution.

Thanks! Do you happen to have any examples (models)?

Wait a minute.... Check cyberhomedvd.com. Here you'll find a dvd player with 5.1 audio output, exactly what you need! I checked the cyberhome AD L-528 player. Does everything: region-free, mp3 output and more. Good luck.

Gentlemen: There are now plenty of DVD players with built-in decoding for budget prices, under $200. Heck, we even have em for that price in Canada.
Any DVD with built-in decoding automatically will have 5.1 analog outputs. That's just the way they are built.
External decoders are going to add another box and a pile of cash to your day. ... Mike

Mike, could you give me some models? I've been to the basic electronic stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and haven't seen any for under $230 or so. I've looked at a few online stores as well... most are pretty vague about the description or don't have adequate pictures.
