Hi folks,
I'm in the planning stages of a renovation to my home theatre setup, and have run across a snag. I want to move all of my components (5 in all) OUT of my great room, and into a nearby closet. Obviously, I'm going to need some way of extending my Sony RM-AV2100's signal into that closet. The only solutions I've found thus far are either far too expensive at the moment ($250 and up), or so cheap in price that I'm worried they won't work (i.e., Radio Shack's wireless remote control extender, $29.99).
I'm hoping there's a reliable solution out there that will allow me to control all 5 of my components, for around $100.00. Is this unrealistic?
Any suggestions/Advice would be MOST welcomed.
Thanks in advance.
/mike

The Powermids at smarthome.com are known to work.
How far away is the closet? Look at the wired thing from hotlink.com, perhaps they have an exension cable for the pickup.

Just use an IR repeater system. Both Niles and Xantech make decent units. Xantech has a basic kit that comes with an IR rcvr, connecting block, and 4 emitters. You would need more emitters most likely but you can splice a couple extra on.

I'd ABSOLUTELY recommend the Xantech kit over an RF Powermid system. Yes, the Powermids work, but many people have interference problems. Things like cordless phones and microwaves often wreak havoc. The xantech kit can be had for less than $100 and will be much more reliable.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |
