Looking for a way to get around the 5 second delay on a panny plasma after sending "on" command, before you can send an input command
Any suggestions

Go to Celadon.com and order there panasonic rs232 to IR adaptor for the screen and you will have complete control over the screen. Any questions email me at HDTV9@aol.com and I'll be happy to help. We use them all the time.

Does anybody know if hughes HDTV box comes with descrete IR? or any other box with discrete IR.

The Hughes box has discrete IR. The Sony HD200 as well
