Some old Mitsu TV's could be "locked", and If I remember right, there was a single default 4 digit master un-lock code. I think it was even in the manual on a little tear-out page so the tykes could find the smut channels easier - kinda defeated the whole lock thing!?

Anybody remember the number?

My poor direct-view was incensed at the "old Mitsu" reference, but I'm divulging the code anyway.

I found the "tear-out", it says:

Cut along dotted line and file after reading

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need to enter the code when:
1. viewing the locked TV, or
2. canceling the lock.

If you forget the code, you can cancel or view the locked TV without entering the code.
To do this, simply press the buttons labeled "Q.V." and "9" at the same time.

Important:
Unlocking made in this procedure is only temporary. After finishing the procedure, follow the instructions shown in "Using the parental lock" in Chapter 3 to cancel or view the locked TV.

The instructions referred to above are basically just about going into the "Advanced Features" menu, and then the "Use parental lock" menu. From there you should be able to unlock it by setting the lock to "off". After it's off I think you can reset the lock code if you choose. (I've never used it.)

Hope that helps..

Sheik-

Hey, no offense meant - I've got a 35" golden-oldie flushed in the wall of of my bar/pool/foosball room that looks like the day it was new. Just don't have the manual.

I'd always wondered if anybody with kids ever actually tore out the unlock instructions? I'm guessing .0002%, maybe less.

The lockout problem was a customers REALLY old 35". I'd love to sell them newer stuff but the cabinetry was built for it, and it still looks great and refuses to die a graceful death just to bump my cash flow.

QV+9 worked perfectly... thanks for the help!

I'd never looked at that page, let alone tearing it out. You piqued my interest and I followed the instructions verbatim, but after filing it all I have is a pile of paper shavings. (Whut did I doo-rong?)

Same with my Mitsu 35"~ and I still get compliments on the picture from people with "better" stuff. It's a big, space-swallowing cabinet model with the VCR doghouse underneath. I'll have to throw a sledge through the tube to rid myself of it.

I had a CS-27201 for many years and it looked better than many higher end models. I've never really seen a TV that could take punishment like a mitsu...we installed them in sports bars all over Minnesota and they last 7 or more years in that environment and still look good!

Too bad they are out, yet, I'm extrememly happy with my new Wega!

Some of the older mitsu big screens had an unlock procedure that was about a PAGE LONG! There are two versions, depending on year model, and I think I still have them at the office somewhere...I still get a couple of calls annually from customers who insist that the old set still looks fine...If you haven't had any luck, post a request for info here with your fax # and I'll see if I can dig the instructions up for you.

I'm with them; If it weren't for the 4.3 aspect ratio I haven't seen that many reasons outside of front projection to throw the proverbial sledge through the tube.

Quite sporting of you ~ I actually (for a millisecond) considered scanning the Mitsu manual with OCR and then cut 'n pasting it into my response. Then I woke out of my techno-glaze-daze. There ought to be a place for OEM instructions here. After all it's not proprietary information, although I suppose just having some of that archival knowledge on tap has secured a job here and there.
