My Roku Ultra started dropping sound and picture. Usually every few minutes (could be 2, 3, or 10) for a second or so.

Turns out, for what ever reason the HDMi cable WAS the problem. I pulled the cable and replaced it with a new one and the problem is solved.

You wouldn't think a cable that has been in use, and hadn't been moved could go bad but....

I'm curious, what brand cable was it? How old was it?

Never rule out a bad HDMI Cable causing problems. I've fixed a lot of video issues on different devices just by swapping out HDMI cables. I would guess poor shielding, damage from being pulled out a few times or some sort of oxidization over time.

Just changed one today.  Worked well enough for the blue “please wait” DirecTV startup, screen, but as soon as HD was broadcast, blank screen.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The cable doesn't need to be able to work with extremely low resolution- I have replaced several HDMI cables because the screen had gone completely pink, some were blank and in the case of a set of crappy HDMI extenders, the border was a wide band of black with snow in the center.

Did I mention that I hate HDMI, lately?

SnapAV cable.

Roku Ultra is set to 1080P rather than 4K HDR at the moment, but I'm going to mess with settings while the bride is gone.

Funny thing- every time I have seen a bad cable, I replaced it with one of the lower priced skinny Vanco cables and never had a problem again.

Roku Ultra sitting directly below the LG 4K TV. connected with the 1 meter cable. Replaced the cable with a new 1 meter cable and the problem is resolved.

I’ve standardized on the skinny Vancos now for I don’t know how long. Always been very satisfied.

Now that I’ve said that I’m expecting my phone to blow up but in this moment, very satisfied with them.
