I have done this many times on the CI side and recommended it to dealers since moving to the rep side. There is a little hacktastic to do on the XLR as you need to remove the heads on one side. You also want to make sure you sum at the euroblock connection as I am guessing you want summed to the sub and the sats and most of the DSPs built for the Crown amp will expect the signal to be summed prior to input.

Care to clarify? Combining pins 2&3 will cancel the signal since pin 3 is inverted. Did you mean connect Pins 1 and Pin 3? That's only going to make the signal work with unbalanced connections, it won't sum the + and - components of the signal.

Summing between the channels ....left into left right into right...then jumpers between Left pin 1 and right pin one ...left pin 2 and right pin 2 etc...

I think that you have a gain issue and Fred's solution would be the best if you have a single ended (RCA) input.

Operating near the top of the Volume control range is not a problem unless the output is too low -- indicating that the system needs more gain. A Volume control taper that results in "loud" at only 25% rotation results in a feeling of "powerful", but the system is difficult to control. Low end system manufacturers are very aware of this and make sure that their system is "powerful" by incorporating very aggressive control tapers. If the users of these systems upgrade to a quality, much more powerful system that has a gentler control taper, the user will often think that the upgrade is less "powerful".

I would suggest that you are using consumer level outputs on the Sonos, and the Crown is looking for a pro level input. There's a 14 dB difference between the two. You'll need a line driver to act as a stepping preamp between the Sonos and the Crown. RDL makes a dandy one. Others are out there as well.

For full clarity this is using the ART Cleanbox Pro as the line driver.

I’ve used this one. Output is mono as I had used the CDi1000 for two different outdoor zones.

That's really not the correct way to increase the level. If you want to sum the signal, something like this would be better.

If you want to increase the level, the CleanBox is a good choice.

Understood, This is summing the signal AFTER the Cleanbox Pro.
