Customer has a 10 year old Elan system. (I'm not the installer, he retired soon after then)

(S12, Sirius unit with lifetime, Touch-panels, 6 Zones of Audio, 3 Component Zones)

The wiring looks good and everything is neat as shows to be exactly where things need to be plugged into, and nothing has been changed.

They aren't sure when it stopped working but the ViaNet doesnt work and no zones are controllable. From what I can tell though, I think the SS1 is bad. all its LED lights blink on/off non stop. It's not the 3 or 5 blink pattern like the manual refers to. Almost seems like it just keeps rebooting fast. I tested the power supply and its voltage is good. I can manually turn things on and off from the buttons of the S12 but not the touch panels.

Here's the question:

Can we get a replacement SS1 and plug it in without having any programming done? I understand this unit has some kind of network setting that can be set, but it isnt connected to any lan port.

As an on and off Elan dealer for 20-25yrs I find it odd that I’ve never seen an SS1. Normally, an HC with an SC1 would drive comm in a system. There is a fellow named Tom that runs http://www.theciguys.com/ who can absolutely help you out and built a business doing just this with Elan. Give him a call and he will absolutely get you fixed up.

I have no knowledge of Elan... however I have several Elan Touchpanels, controllers taken from jobs in case you need it.

Unless you just have some passion for restoring antique audio systems, it’s time to let this thing die and put in some new equipment. The S12 could be reused, especially with an Elan controller. But everything else is unsupported and out of date.
