Not to throw the OP under the bus, it's nice that you want to help a friend, but if it's C4 and you don't carry it or work with it, you have zero chance. C4 is all IP based, in the right system, you would see Zero IR emitters because everything would be controlled over the network. I would guess the Yamahas don't have them because of SDDP and easy C4 integration.

What I've run into a few times lately is the old "I dunno, it just doesn't work / has never worked / hasn't worked for a while".

The translation is the ISP or god forbid the cable guy came out (or maybe even the customer), swapped the modem/router, bypassed all the original install cause "you don't need that many things hooked up", and now nothing works.

And yes, a C4 forum would be cool. Hell, if RTI still has one....

Ha! I've been there.

It's all WiFi now, right?

There are still many devices that don’t use IP. Especially on projects where you mix older gear. I think if you judge a project as correct or incorrect based on the presence of IR emitters that might be unfair. Avoiding them should be a goal but in many cases it’s not only preferred, it’s mandatory as it’s the only control method. Now if I see an IR emitter on the front of a new XBR then.....

Can we ask... who did the original install & programming? Are they not available anymore?

That is correct. The people who did the install are no longer in business.

Is the controller/base station powered up?
Given your description, that's the first thing I would check!

Yes it is powered up. No error LED indicators.

I would love to see a C4 forum here on RC. In my opinion RC is one of the best places to go for remote and automation help. Been here for years and received much help and information on the old Pronto models and the URC lineup.

You are all correct about presence of IR emitters. Some equipment does require it. For instance, they have an old VCR player that requires it for sure. they also have a Sony XBR LED tv that has 0 emitters on it. Nothing plugged into the rear IR in port either. But it is also controlled by the EA-5. I was puzzled seeing this at first but your responses have explained that.

Given your responses; and that the original installer is out of business (and some other bad/incorrect info posted elsewhere here), I’d recommend your friend contact Control4 Customer Advocacy to have another installer assigned to the project. Have your friend contact C4 at 1-888-400-4070 and request to be connected to Customer Advocacy. Good luck.

Yes I think I will do that. Thank you!

Not a C4 House, but actually surprised there is no C4 forum here, yet there is still a Nevo one.

Nevo makes sense since it was very popular with the DIY crowd.
