I am wondering if someone ever did a job that the customer insisted on having the speakers mounted behind the stretched ceiling. (PVC)

This is NOT background music, but for a family room with 65 in TV, with an all ceiling 7.1 ch setup. There was no way of having the speakers mounted in- wall. 7 X in-ceiling speakers and a floor sub-woofer.
There is also a game room with the same setup but 5.1 ch.
The ceiling installer says he does it all the time and it will be fine. I am waiting for him to give me a referral so I can see/hear for myself. I also saw on a web site that the ceiling can be micro perforated. The installer says that he can’t mount them , like he would with ceiling lights.
Thanks for your time.
Please excuse (my rather rusty) English.

If they install can lights, HVAC vents, and smoke detectors thru the vinyl then they should be able to install speakers in the same manner. You may have to build some type of back box or extended depth trim ring. If you have to put the speaker behind the vinyl test it first. Have the installer get you a sample of the micro perf material and test if by using an RTA to measure the speaker alone and then with the material in front of the speaker at the same distance it would be in the install. Stewart specifies a minimum gap between the speaker and the screen with their micro perf product. Can you Eq out the damage the material causes to the sound? Have the client listen and sign off.
