Just installed a system with a 50" plasma and the fellas at Xantech told me I needed to use this monster looking plasma proof micro-link to control the components inside the cabinet. It's about 5 times as large as the regular micro-links and my clinet isn't too excited about installing this in their $35k cabinet.

What kind of built in IR receivers are you guys using around plasmas.

We usually install Xantech "Micro links" below the screen with the tip of the reciever just set back about 1/4 of an inch from the front edge of the display. If it still gets interference, then I unscrew the tip and pull out the little round piece of glass, stick white electrical tape to it, neatly trim it, then replace the glass. That usually does the trick for me.

AudioPlex makes several Plasma proof IR Receivers that work well with Xantech IR systems. Much better looking than the Xantech peice... Cheaper too.

I have tried both the Xantech and the Audioplex. The Audioplex works in places where the Xantech won't. It costs significantly less, and looks significantly more atractive. Xantech needs to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Note: One wierd problem that I had with the Audioplex (Stealth Model), is that it had some compatibility problems with Xantech emitters. The Xantech emitters worked fine on everything except a digital cable box by Scientific Atlantic. I installed the Audioplex emitter in it's place and it worked okay. I still don't understand why it should make a difference, but it did.

One way to get around this in the future is to use a remote that is RF capable like a Pronto. As mentioned above, certain cable boxes have IR codes that don't pass well with certain IR receivers. The Elan IR tube passes all IR codes we have tried so far, and with the white electrical tape trick mentioned above works well around a plasma

We do alot of plasma if you use the xantech ir friendly plasma you can hide on the top of the plasma facing slighty up, it generally works fine & the customer doesn't see them. Need any help email info@hvhomemedia.com.

We use SpeakerCraft IR receivers (ALR version) and works no problems with New Fujitsu and Panasonic.

Stew,

And I thought I was crazy when I had the same problem with a Scientific Atlanta box recelently. Audioplex emitter fine, xantech won't work. Glad to know it wasn't just me.

I happen to have an Audioplex plasma friendly IR receiver, connector block, and power supply that I won't be needing (still new in box- ended up not going plasma). Let me know if you are interested.
