I was in my local A/V shop at the weekend and wandered in to their demo room. On the table in front of the couch was a tabletop remote. It was about 6" long and about 3" high and had a thick rubber surround to it. It was a touch screen remote and looked as though it had custom graphics on it. It wasnt a pronto or anything like that and looked like it was much better built i.e. heavier, stronger and more durable. Does anybody know what this remote might have been? It sat on the table and wasnt a shape that would be comfortable to hold in the hand whilst using. Also it had buttons on it for setting the lighting to "movie mode" or "TV mode", does doing this require X-10 modules or are there remote light switches available that you can program to remember various lighting levels and control via remote control (I would like to do this with me pronto)?

Well, vaugely sounds like a Crestron or AMX panel. How many hard buttons did it have? AMX have 2 on each side, Crestron has 5 on each side.
There are dozens of ways to control lighting.. X-10 is one ofthe cheapest and least reliable however.....

For the lighting you can use a Lutron Spacer dimmer. They are available at Lowes or Home Depot
