If I had a run of 20/100ft of wire, either sound, component, S-Video or digital video, RG-6 to contend with, I will definitely be concerned in using a good decent wire that I'll know it will perform for me to carry a clean signal to destination regardless of how much it costs. But what I was refering to (above) was short video cables of 4/6ft, and spending like $ 80 for a component (Monster) cable is out the question and insane. I have a 50" Sony Plasma in the Family room wich is connected to a Sony progressive scan DVD changer, and I am using a $ 8.95 component cable that I bought from www.cablestogo.com and I had first tried an $ 80 Monster cable wich I borrowed from a friend. There was no one trace of difference in video quality between the two of them what's so ever, so you see if you need to use a short cable, you'll be crazy to spend $ 60/80 for it.

A $1,000,000 system
will sound 3.238746 times better than a $100,000
system.

Could you give me the formula? I could SWEAR it was 3.275!

higher end
systems to the less than 1% of people who are
looking beond wall mart quality then not using
better cables is out of the question.

Using better cables is absolutely what we want to do. Paying for the crap such as Monster Cables' claim that skin effect is audible in the audio range is just plain stupid. Monster Cable is really good stuff, but it is not as good as their story about it.

Are you going to present your rich client with a product that costs a lot of money just because you can sell it to him? Just because it costs a lot? If he has a prejudice learned from advertising, then don't even THINK about talking him out of Monster Cable, but don't go in there saying it's what he has to have.

(My 2nd $.02)

Your opinion is worth way more than that, which is why you should not just bend to the stories that the little cable monsters tell...the question above, Do You Sell Bose, is beautifully on point. They have lots of story with good sounding performance (until you know better) to go along with it. Monster has a great story until you learn that they are good, but not unique, and overpriced unless Monster is all you know.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

What
makes it better than other cables?

Because they said so.

the only time i'll talk a customer out of using Monster Cable stuff is on video cables... (especailly now that my main supplier carries Monster now... heh)

I've found that other brands carry component video signal better than Monster...
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

I think MIT is the best cable line.

Of coarse I have to get in on this. I'm an electrical engineer and spent a good part of my earlier career measuring transmission line effects (how electricity travels over different wires and circuit traces) for various tape and disk companies. Skin effect and the rest of Monster's psychobabble are real...when you get up to about 100MHz. Most people can't hear that. For audio, it doesn't matter what you use as long as you have a good solid connection at each end. There might be a slight effect on analog video (not digital), but when you consider the miles of cheap wire it's already traveling on it is a moot point. Monster cable is very pretty and makes a nice looking installation. If a customer tells me he has to have MOnster I give it to him. If he asks my opinion I will give it to him. I have done blind tests with people and nobody I know has reliably distinguished between the two.
How hard can this be?

God...what more can you say? With such a solid and compelling argument, this thread is SURELY dead.
