This happened to my plasma today.

If I turn it off with the remote, nothing happens.

Input used: RGB using a rgb-component cable. In the S-video input everything's fine. It only happens in the rgb input.

When I turned it off from the plasma (hardware)and turned it on again, the problem went away.

I am using dtv rca receiver with component video and s-video out. The plasma is a sony PFM42B2 and I have it since Dec 2002.

What do you think this is?

I think it may be due to a UCP.

There's a lock out switch on most plasma's that will make it not repond to the remote. Also if you're sat receiver is a DTC-100 we have installed literally hundreds of them as they are one the best HD receivers we have used but they do freak out every once in a while. You check the switch on the plasma, and reset the receiver by holding the power and the down arrow together until the HD Monitor light goes out. Then it will take a minute or two until the receiver will let you turn it back on. When you can turn it back on hit the clear on the remote and see if that does the trick. If you need more help let me know. Email me at info@hvhomemedia.com.

I thought that meant you turn it on, and for all the good it does, U C P.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Have no idea if you have this fixed yet but just in case. First thing is since it's only related to the RGB input work on that. It actually looks like a sync problem although a weird one. Try this to at least isolate the problem, first remove the rgb cable completely. Then clean the output and input connectors from the source and the plasma. Then use any other known good cables and reconnect, doesnt have to be a rgb cable get 3,4,5 wires of the same length and hook them up and see what happens then. If it seems to clear up put the old cable back on and see if it's still clear. If it acts up again either since it has to be under warranty take it to a Sony service ctr. and have it looked at. Also if they check it out and its ok replace the cable for sure. One other note you may want to look in the menufor the plasma and see what if anything they offer for choices in relation to the rgb input..such as sync on green ...etc!

The problem has not repeated. I didn't do anything to fix it. But, I think, since it goes away when I turn off and on the monitor (hardware), I don't know if the cable has something to do...

That picture suggests the thermistor diode is inverted out of phase. Snip the wires and reverse them and everything should work fine.

p.s. If that doesn't work, check the plasma injectors.
