I recently installed a Sony KE-42TS2 plasma along with a denon 3803 receiver, progressive scan DVD, s-VHS VCR, and a composite video cable box for a customer of mine. Here's the problem, after connecting all the components to the denon receiver and sending one component video cable to the component/RGBHV to the TV, (using the denon video up conversion feature) the picture cuts out on certain cable channels and the VHS play back jitters DVD playback is fine. After an hour of trouble shooting I determined that the plasma wasn't getting a proper sync from the composite and s-video components, the solution was to connect a composite video cable from the monitor out on the denon receiver to the H sync input on the plasma, now the cable works fine but the VCR still cuts out, but only on certain older tapes. Any suggestions? I'm trying to utilize the video up conversion on the denon for obvious reasons.
NOTE*
*VHS works fine on the video inputs on the plasma
*the plasma displays 480p for the DVD, and 525/60?? (can't remember)for the cable and VHS
*the plasma component setup is on (video sync.

and suggestions would be great, thanks
Nick

The VCR problem is not unique to your plasma. I was totally blown away when I installed a Sony G90 with a $24,000 Faroudja processor and the VCR would not play in color....

I was told by the man who did the Sony projector setup (who used to do the dual-projector setups for Vidikron at CES), and I was also told by the techs at Faroudja, that VCR sync signals are too erratic for the tight tolerances of our cool new digital gear.

I ran a dumb piece of RG-59 around the Faroudja to the G90 and it works just fine.

Your NOTE at the end hints that this just might be a universal problem with VCR outputs upconverted to higher scan rates.

Thank you so much for including the amount of detail that you did. That note at the end was the clincher, and soooooo many people ask questions without teling us what we need to know to respond.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
