How about calling the dealer you got the product from? They're kind of obligated to support their customers after the fact.

It doesn't matter where you bought the Elan from, the manufacture should provide customers with a service manual or an instruction manual.

An owners manual isnt going to help you.

Elan Via's need to be programmed through Elans Proprietary interface.

Your going to need to find a dealer to either program it for you, or sell you a Via Programming/interface kit. I would say its highly unlikely that anyones going to program it for you due to the fact that you bought it through Ebay.

That was probobly something you should of looked into before bidding.

I have the Via tool and have been programing my z-100 keypads for some time.

I can't understand it. What do the people at Elan think. People keep this equipment forever then throw it in the dumpster. Their is a ton of Elan gear out their. I have a 9 Zone Z system. Thats 3 Z-630's all series 2, 1 Z-fan, 1 Z-660, (Also 2 Speakercraft BB-835's) 1 Z-Power and 9 zones of Z-100 and Z-150. Now I am adding a VIA!

To the guys who have helped me out thanks very much. I wish I had something to offer back.

Manufacturers try to keep their costs down any way they can. This includes limiting tech support, a very costly expense for them, to the market that acutally sells their stuff and pays their bills for them, the dealers.

You sound like a decent guy. Remember when you buy things that the builder of the product is not automatically responsible for giving you anything. Yes, it's a common expectation, and often you can get support, but not always. Ebay and other "secondary market" outlets for products are a problem for this industry in that individual salesmen and dealers remarket their components at a profit or to turn cash. This is not an "authorized outlet" for mfrs. who concern themselves with such things, and trouble for the buyer when support is needed. I look at things on Ebay and assume that whatever I might buy there (cameras, mainly) come with nothing actual or implied that wasn't listed.

That being said, I'm guessing you can get to where you want to go. You already have the brain cells to make the system you already own go; getting the resources either here or paying a dealer for the programming time or buying a Via Tools package from him.

I know all about the Ebay problem. We have the same problem in my industry. I see posts both here and on the AV Forum about DYIers shopping Lowes and Home Depot. It burns me up when I try to make a few bucks on a item and the customer sees it at the Depot for a price lower then I pay at my supplier. When this happens, I stick to my price and thats the end of it. I get the job or not. I am always busy.

My point is the same problem exists in all industries. We all have to deal with it at some level.

Well the bottom line is I'll get to where I want to go one way or another. Their are a lot of dealers who give me greef when I ask a question, but their is always someone out there that is willing to help. I found out that all you really have to do is ask.

Let me give you some real help. Throw your new VIA in the trash and go buy a real touchpanel, then beg your friends not to kick your ass for putting Elan in your house. Of course if they are real friends they still will.

The manual that comes with a Via is a two page folded sheet and tells you nothing of programming or using a Via. It tells you what you can and can't clean it with and where you can or can't install it. It is more useless than the supplied pronto manual after you sell and program a pronto. From my experience it is much easier to just play around with ViaTools than it is to read it's manual. So I guess what I am saying is you have everything you need, and won't get much from what you are looking for.

This is true, however the "installation manual" is
11 pages and has some valuable information for someone
who has never installed a VIA!! i.e. the pin-out

This may not be much information, but I would not call it "useless"

I agree

what I am saying is you have everything you need,

Yes, if the equipment is connected.

Pretty harsh
I am just a DYIer and even before I got help with my Elan system I did not feel THAT bad. My opinion is Elan is very straight forward and consistant. I figured out VIA Tools before I had the manual. If you need some help with you equipment I would be glad to help.
