Tried to do a search with no luck. Anyone have a template for excel or word. Just need a simple cheat sheet for customers who do not want a universal remote.
Thanks, Rene

I have one thats very easy. Step 1. Buy a universal remote Step 2. Use universal remote
Seriously we sell systems 1% of the time without one and what we usually do is have the customer write down the cheat sheet as we explain it to them. That way they have it in their own words.

By cheat sheet, do you mean a short form of system operation instructions?
If the client wants it written down, I usually use a piece of paper with vertical lines separating the lists of what I want to play/do which remote use first which remote I use next...
Some people want to write very cursory notes, so a form would be of no help. Some people want exact instructions in full sentences, so a form would be of no help.
The only thing that takes care of all situations is the programmable remote. Not even the universal remote. If a client has trouble remembering which remote to pick up to do what, I do not find that a universal remote will help, because all it does is minimize the number of remotes. It still requires the client to push buttons shifting the remote from, say, an amp remote to a dvd remote to a monitor remote...so they sometimes have to understand their system even better to use the universal remote.
Which is Why I recommend the Pronto and the Marantz 5200 (or better). Have you tried creating your own template in Excel or Word? It shouldn't be too hard, but -- are you going to fill in blanks in a computer at the store, then go out to the client's home? are you going to print out a form, then fill in the blanks by pen or pencil at the client's home?
In the first case, chances are good that you will have to add something at the client's home. In the second case, a printed form is only a slight help; pen or pencil plus a ruler will do you just as well.
I guess the answer is that, with electronics as complicated as they are right now, the client can either get a programmable remote, or suffer.

Yeah, if you want to do a system operation list. I suggest using an outline technique.
1) To watch a Video Tape ....a) Turn on system ....b) Press VCR on remote ....c) Press Play on VCR remote.
you get the idea.

Though usually after a few days, we get a call to sell the client the remote we bid in the first place. Cause even though one person can go through the "action list" with no problem, there's always someone in the family who is can't without getting the system out of sync. ;) JJP

Yeah, that's the tough part about teaching a sequence of button presses. Once something is out of whack, then it's a free service call...

Just get a universal like the MX-700 and program exactly how the cheat sheet would have been.
