I've been using RTI for a couple of years now. Today I came to a job where I had to program a 9600 with a serial extender. No big deal. Until the program crashed (just like pronto edit and prontopro edit always used to do). Of course I should have saved more often but I didn't (my fault). Needless to say were pulling this pronto out and installing a T4 and RP6. Viva la RTI.

As a newbie here I'm not sure how entitled I am to answer, as an IT professional I've been using the software you speak of very heavily for the last month or so and not had a single problem with it.

Might be worth looking at your PC install.

Personally my TSU9600 and RFX9600 are going great guns for me.

Regards
Fred

Interesting, never had a single crash using the Pronto products and I have used just about all of them. If a stable product crashes, 99% of the time there is an installation problem, or a badly installed OS, or a virus. But I guess it is easier to blame what just crashed than trying to figure out what happened. I know- frustrating.

Actually I've had 3 different laptops in the years I've been doing pronto's and all have had crashed from time to time, not super often but enough to frustrate you every time. The biggest issue I had today was all the time it took to learn the codes from the remotes I had. I have quite a few codes from previous pronto remotes which I was able to import, but a lot of the products at this job we haven't used before. Stewart masking, some off brand scaler, panamorph lens motor to name a few. I'm just so used to RTI's code database, and the easy and efficient way of learning new remotes. I apologize if I offended any pronto lovers, but how many are still pronto lovers after using RTI?

I actively program RTI and Prontos. I will definitely give you that the original ProntoEdit (for the TSU-1000, 2000, and 6000) was prone to crashing. I remember it crashing often when I would try to drag steps in macros. But other than that, I don't recall having problems with any other ProntoEdit. I think Prontos and RTI products each have their pros and cons. I don't have a clear preference for one over the other.

If I'm using ProntoEdit for TSU9x00 and I start another ProntoEdit (any version) to copy an IR code, I can expect ProntoEdit for TSU9x00 to crash soon after. This action is particularly deadly if I don't close the properties window on the other version before returning to the edit session.

The TSU9400 Pro editor has been working fine for me (except for the non-WYSIWYG font issue). No crashes. I can use it along with the TSU7000/7500 NG editor without any crashes.

If you really want to push your luck, try running it under a Parallels virtual machine on a Mac with Windows Vista. Funnily enough it works fine and I have used extensively for the last 3 months or so this way.

I use XP SP2 and both editors side-by-side with no issues.

Since some people in this thread seem to have gotten PEP and PENG to work with Parallels on the Mac, I am hoping they can help share their success.

I am running XP SP2 on Parallels. I installed both PEP and PENG. When I attach my tsu9400, XP tries to install the USB driver, but then hangs XP until I unplug the tsu9400. I can't seem to get the USB driver installed.

When I connect the tsu7000, USB driver installs, I get the "battery too low message" when I try to communicate.

Any insight or wisdom would be appreciated.

In my previous response, just to clarify...

Side-by-side did not mean on Parallels, it meant using the NG editor and PEP on the same Intel-based PC running native WinXP SP2.

Prontoedit 4 and ProntoEditPro are running here without any problems on XP and Vista. Even thinstalled 'portable' versions work fine from an USB stick. No problems.
