The problem may not be that of Philips.
When The machine boots and the OS comes into operation.
It is going to look for the USB devices that it thinks
belong to it like an IR receiver, a keyboard, a mouse.
In Microsoft's eyes It comes first ahead of anyone else
(So what is new) . It then initializes registered drivers
which grab those devices they think are theirs.
Sooner or later Philips gets its chance to grab its device
if it can find it which means some one else has not taken
it (mistakenly) as their dvice. If some one has, then
the HID message will be issued.
So what can Philips do about it. Not really anything.
There is no API to say "HEY, you took my device and I
want it Back!!" I am not sure but perhaps they could tell
you which driver has their device but I am not sure there
is an API for that other then perhaps a registry search.
The real culprit is Microsoft with just bad software.
A very poor enumeration and allocation mechanism for
installable device on the USB bus.
Barry, are you sure this is a Microsoft issue? Have you discussed the problem with Philips?
To me it seems unlikely since i never had any conflicts with other HID devices.
Could it be that PEP by mistake identifies any of the other HID's as the Pronto?
I have this problem with two computers so far, one is a Vaio VGN-AR51SU and i can work around it by disabling 3 HID's beloning to the ir remote.
Second computer is a HP Touchsmart IQ820sc (brand new) where i have to disable 9 HID's belonging to the IR remote and the wireless keyboard.
What is a bit strange is that the keyboard still works except for the standy button and on the remote some of the buttons still work, sadly not the green button :(
Do you know if Philips has done any research on this?
Has anyone got communication with Pronto to work on a Vista PC with Microsoft eHome IR Tranciever installed? (without disabling HID's)
I find it very anoying that it doesn't work on a brand new factory installed computer from a well known manufacturer like HP.
Thanks
