OK, so I've got my 9400, have been playing around with it and using both the demo and my current TSU6000 ccf's in order to get acquainted. Although I mainly got the 9400 for the btter gui and nice hard buttons and jog wheel areas, etc I'm intrigues by its connectivity potential. My HT is right next to my home office (which houses my wireless router, etc.) so I don't think extenders are in my future (although with the newb questions here maybe I have the use of extenders misunderstood). Newb question 1:
What is the wireless capabilty good for? What can I use my 9400 to do on the Net? Can I use it to emulate what my Nokia 770 tablet does (i.e Slimserver/Squeezecenter web interface with album artwork, etc.)? I love that it has connectivity, and think of myself as fairly creative, but what are some applications that I'd need Web data in order to run my HT remotely, which consists of 5.1 and 7.1 setups, hirez music, front pj, cable HD, Blu-Ray, 2 channel everything (Squeezecenter?).

Follow on newb question 2: What tools are available to program to the Net, assuming I have an application I can come up with?

Final newb question for this thread: If I run in stand-alone mode, have my 2Wire portal 9router) SSIDD and 64 bit encryption keys included in the setup (under system properties/wireless) and download the setup, why does it sit there and say "connecting"?

Download the ProntoScript Developers Guide. If you can program using TCP/IP this should give you some hints. Also, search for a post in this forum +Weather +Module where you will find a link to download a config file (In French) that hits weather.com.

I also have a module available for small support-fee if you are interested (In English).

Standalone mode is only useful if you have an RFX9400. You will want to use Network mode. It sits there and says "Connecting..." because it's trying to find a wireless network with the SSID you specified.

There have been quite a few posts discussing SSID and network configuration here. May I suggest that you take an afternoon and do some browsing as there's lots to explain and a single thread of questions will likely NOT cut it.

Search for +Slim +Server in this forum as well and you'll see some nice artwork for an Activity developed by Barry Gordon and LowPro.

If you understand the HTTP protocol and can write Javascript to communicate this protocol over a socket you can do pretty much anything except generate dynamic formatting required for HTML views.

Once again, download the ProntoScript Developers Guide from the Files section.

Thanks. I'm not a programmer. I guess I'll wait and look for 9400 prebuilt pcfs in the files area someday, and for your porting of the Slimserver capability over to the 9400. In the meantime, I'm taking 7500 setups and trying them, and have downloaded the newer galleries, etc. I'll be fine and buried, without connectivity, for awhile. Thx
Ted
