Hi all,

I emailed Dave on this on a thread I read about a CAM russound setup but haven't heard back yet. If anyone has any thoughts on my problem that would be great.

Basically I have 2 CAV6.6 with a 8x8 VM1 Russound matrix. All 12 zones are working sweet switching component video as they should. I have 2 RFX9600 with 2 TSU9600 that I would like to add to the system. Current problem is this: One of the 12 zones is a dedicated home theater room that uses a denon 5805ci for the 9.1 surround. There is HDMI monitor out on the denon thats hooked directly to the sony vw100 projector and the denon pushes all video out of the hdmi. I have 8 sources in the video matrix, 3 HD comcast cable boxes, 1 HD DVD, 1 sony Bluray, media center, 300 disc dvd, video ipod and standard dvd. All of video for my sources are connected component to the video matrix and analog audio to the cav, however, I also have HDMI cables going from the bluray to the denon for the home theater. The problem that I'm having is when I want to watch a bluray movie in my bedroom or living room and the denon is powered on for the home theater, the HDMI kicks on the bluray and disables the component. If I power down the denon, the hdmi shuts off and pushes video through the component back to the russound system. Now, i'm totally new to the prontos and would love to use rs232 for the entire system, if I need to buy another 1 or 2 rfx9600 i will because of the limited number of rs232 ports on the 2 i currently have. I have cat5 to all of my sets for rs232 connections as well as the projector. I would love to see someones cfx file if they have it working with a russound system and if someone has any thoughts as to the best way for me to set up a macro to either detect if the denon is on and automatically switch the source on the denon when I go into bluray or hddvd from another room or another way for this to work. I have lots of experience with the universal remote stuff and I'm pretty good with macros but this is my first time configuring a pronto 9600.

FYI. Instead of running a cat5 down to the projector, i kept the vm1 component block for the zone right in the rack so i can go into one of the inputs on the denon for that zone. What I'm thinking is when someone calls for the bluray in another room, it also triggers the denon to switch to that component input so that even if a bluray movie was playing through the hdmi output on the projector, it would auto switch to the component input and the movie would still be playing. I hope someone understands this...lol..

Thanks a bunch
MTM

An easy way to detect when an AV receiver is ON is to plug a modular power supply into the receiver's switched outlet. You can easily detect this with an RFX9600.

Detecting that the AV receiver is switched to the BlueRay's HDMI input is more difficult and will require some rs232 programming. In some cases a VERY accurately placed photo sensor might be able to detect an indicator light associated with the HDMI input, but I am not familiar enough with your units to know if this might be possible.

Just write a simple prontoscript that does a serial.match(yourstring,"\r");

You can do this somewhat easily with a repeating page script or CF.activity().scheduleAfter().

"yourstring" from above would be...

For Main Zone
SI?\r The response will be the input the unit is currently set on.

Z[X]SI\r , where [x] is 2-4 the string you need to send for other zones.

Hi mtminter, Sorry I haven't got back to you, I've been swamped with work (everyone want's stuf for christmas!)

I know what you mean about HDMI, but from what I understand and from every Blu-Ray player I've used you can not get HD out of them over component, (unlike HD-DVD), they all down convert to 576.

To get round this I only use HDMI from the Blu-Ray player. This I take into a HDMI 2way splitter one output goes to the main AV amp for the cinema, the other goes to a HDMI to component converter that gives upto 1080P over component. This is then fed into the matrix switch.

Ive not yet used the Russound unit as we use the Smart-e 8X8 Matrix over cat5 in our systems, but this method should also work with the Russound Matrix switch.

This is the converter I use [Link: av-sales.com]

Thanks Dave. Will definitly try that method. I highly recommend the russound VM1 component over cat5 video switcher. They make 1080p passthrough versions as well as upconversion versions. Quality is amazing across zones and you can save on your rs232 commands because you only have to issue commands to the cav for switching video as if it was a regular source change. Any chance you would let me see any files you have used in the past with cav6.6's and rs232 command functions. I'm having a tough time with my config. One other question, on the home theater zone that audio is being controlled via my denon, for the keypad on that zone, what would you think would be the easiest way without the pronto for someone to walk in the room and power on the keypad to automatically kick up the projector and power on the projector and switch to the given source on the denon that feeds the video matrix. Keep in mind that i'm rs232 to the denon and projector going into the rfx9600. What I was thinking was to use the IR on the projector and IR on the denon for any macros coming out of the cav and use the rs232 soley for use with the pronto. Thanks a bunch. My email is mtm3377@aol.com if you can email me any files. Thanks again.

I think you got it spot on with the above. I would come out of the CAV's ACC IR output into a xanteck block to give you more outputs (if you need more?) you can then learn the codes needed into the CAV and build a small macro within the PCPowertool software, should work fine.
