I have been developing a TSU9400 configuration for the last 2 weeks under Vista. As of 2 days ago I am unable to download configurations to the control panel receiving a solid “Error: C5, HID not found”. Over the last 2 days, I have tried the following:

Rebooted both devices in every conceivable order.

Tried every USB port with/without USB hubs.

Disconnect the Pronto. Uninstall the Pronto Driver, Reboot Vista. Connect Pronto.

Uninstall/reinstall ProntoEdit Pro 9400 1.1

Tried to download “TSU9400 Demo US.xcf” from Philips. (Same result.)

Tried to update the Pronto firmware but was unable. The firmware cannot detect the Pronto even in “Troubleshoot” mode ( Firm 2+3+4).

I have two 9400s and both behave identically. (One is fresh out of the box and has never received a download.)

I have asked (begged?) for support on the Philips Pronto web site without result.

Prior to this problem I was downloading and testing configurations normally.

When I connect the Pronto after uninstalling the Pronto driver, I get a tone but donot get a “New Device Found” message.

I have made no changes to my computer that I know of.

Any ideas? I am in a world of sh*t.

Was not aware there was a driver for the 9400. Can you clarify please?

Have you tried running the software in XP compatibility mode? I think it should be Vista-compatible but worth a try.

Hi Lyndel,

Device Manager shows TSU9400 under "Portable Devices". Driver Details show 2 Microsoft drivers in the 32 bit drivers sub-directory: UMDF\WpdFs.dll & WUDFRd.sys. I simply used the driver uninstall from the Device manager.

Two questions: What is an HID? What is XP compatibility mode and how do I get into it?

FWIW, I am so thankful for the incredible amount of time you devote to this forum. With your reponses to other posters, you have helped me more than you could ever imagine.

Right click on the editor exe file from Explorer and select to run in XP compatibility mode.

HID is Human Interface Device.

Apparently ProntoEdit Pro installs itself in compatability mde. In any case, that mode was already set when I checked it. I ran the program both ways without making any difference.

When I first installed the editor then connected the 9400 the Vista tray showed "Found new device" and installed it. I feel like I need to redo that process but I can't get Vista to think the 9400 is a new device.

Bruce,
Can you try to install ProntoEdit on another PC and copy your xcf file to that Pc then try to download it? Preferably use a PC with WinXP installed on it.

On a Thinkpad I had to disable two of the HID's.

RHGoalie,

Thanks. Yeah, I have an XP laptop that will probably work.

I'm going to take the day off tomorrow to eat some turkey then try it.

I can still develop the configuration on the big monitor then transfer to the Laptop for downloads.

Hey Buzz, pardon me but I am lost. Where are the HIDs to be disabled? When I connect the Pronto it shows up in the Portable Devices list not the Human Interface Devices list in Device Manager.

Device Manager shows a lot of HID slots but only 1 with a description--the infrared transeiver. When you dock your 9400 does it show up as an HID?
