Hi everyone!

I am a total newbie in the world of universal remotes. I got my 9600 last week and it took me several days to figure out how to use PEP but now I have finally got the hang of it :) ! BUT...

Two questions still remain. I have a satellite dish with 2 heads (pointed at 2 satellites simultaniously). How do I program changing from one satellite to the other. When using the original remote I would press "satellite" and then choose on the tv screen the satellite I want to watch. How would the Pronto know "where I am". It's very hard to explain what I mean and I'm in a hurry now, so I'll return to this matter if noone understands...

And the other question is about equipment with only one power button (toggle?). How do I program the on and off separately if I can't find a code and must learn it? This is the case with my Technomate 1500 Satbox.

Thanks for bearing with me...

olive,

I've never used a Technomate 1500, I can't offer any codes.

Sometimes the Pronto database will have separate ON and OFF commands regardless of their being on the native remote. Other times I've been able to work out a series of commands that will control the unit. For example, if you press the Guide button or a particular channel number, the receiver may always turn ON. If you can figure out a button sequence that always turns the unit ON, execute this sequence, then include an extra Power command and you will guarantee that the unit will be OFF. This sort of scheme can be clunky and you may need to insert some delays.

Another, usually foolproof scheme, is to use an RFX9600 and detect when the receiver is ON or OFF. (probably using extra hardware)

For your antenna-A and antenna-B, I suggest using two devices. On the Home page use a button for each antenna that selects the proper antenna before jumping to the appropriate "device". As with the power scheme, you may be able to discover a button in the database or a sequence of commands that always selects antenna-A. At that point you can easily select antenna-B when necessary.

Using two devices keeps your programming very simple. As you gain experience you can combine them, but keep it simple for now.Mostly, one program will be a copy of the other. An advantage of this scheme is that it is always clear to the operator which dish is being used (look in the upper left corner of the display).

Thanks for the informative answer!

The SAT-issue I'll solve in exactly the way you recommended, by making two devices. I haven't had the time to check if there is a button that can go to one of the two antennas automatically, I sure hope there is.

As to the on/off button: no other button on the remote turns the box on, so it seems to be a genuine toggle. I don't have an extender and i'm not going to get one just to solve this issue. I'll try to connect tecnical support at technomate and see if they could provide a solution. If I can't find any, I guess i'll just have to leave the damn thing permanently on - which is extremely stupid considering the price of the Pronto.

re choosing the antenna - If it can be done by the remote . . . Sounds like you just need a macro involving the button that brings up the selection on the screen, and then some cursor actions or whatever you do on the remote to move aropund and select the antenna you want. If there is a discrete button that would be nicer.

It is not the fault of the Pronto it is the fault of the manufacturer of the Sat box. If the manufacturer does not build in discrete codes into their product, then nothing will control it reliably.

Yes, most people do leave them on all of the time.
